ICSJWG 2010 Fall Conference

The Industrial Control Systems Joint Working Group (ICSJWG) 2010 Fall Conference will be held on October 25-28, 2010 in Seattle, Washington USA at the Renaissance Seattle Marriott Hotel. This event will provide control systems stakeholders from industry, government, academia, international, vendor, and research and development communities with an opportunity to network and engage in discussions related to securing control systems.

The ICSJWG Conference will consist of panel discussions, presentations, training, and working group meetings on various topics such as emerging technologies, standards development, threat and incident reporting, analysis tools and techniques, roadmap development initiatives, workforce development and certification, vulnerability management, research and development, information sharing, and international coordination.

An 8-hour Introduction to Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity will also be offered on Thursday, October 28 at the conference site.  Attendance at the conference is not required to attend the training.

There is no cost to attend the ICSJWG conference and training.

Who should attend?

The ICSJWG Conference is open to all who are interested in learning more about cyber security issues facing critical infrastructure control systems.  The ICSJWG Conference is an excellent resource for government professionals (federal, state, local, tribal, and international), control systems vendors and systems integrators, research and development and academic professionals, and owners and operators (management, engineering, production, IT, etc) to interface with cyber security peers and stay abreast with the latest initiatives impacting security for industrial control systems.

Training

The training is a fast-paced course covering control systems cyber security challenges. The training objectives include helping participants understand the importance of securing control systems, how attacks against control systems can be launched, and providing mitigation strategies. Participants will gain an understanding of how to improve the cyber security posture of their control system networks. Specific topics will include:

  • The importance of protecting control systems from cyber attacks and why they are susceptible
  • Understanding the risks and potential consequences of attacks
  • Understanding common vulnerabilities in industrial control systems
  • Discussion of system exposures to attacks, various attack scenarios, and associate mitigation strategies
  • Control Systems Security Program products and services that are available to asset owners.

Agenda

The ICSJWG meetings are planned as follows:

  • Monday, October 25 – afternoon and evening Subgroup working meetings (by invitation of the Subgroup Co-Chairs)
  • Tuesday, October 26 – Subgroup status and accomplishment presentations
  • Wednesday, October 27 – Paper and Panel Presentation
  • Thursday, October 28 - Training, 8-hour Introduction to Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity

Travel

Travel, accommodations, meals, beverages, and any other expenses are the responsibility of conference participants and will NOT be covered by the ICSJWG or CSSP.  Participants are also responsible to book their own rooms at the conference hotel or nearby area.

Call for Papers – ICSJWG 2010 Fall Conference

The ICSJWG program committee is accepting abstracts for proposed presentations focused on cyber security issues impacting critical infrastructure control systems.  Presentations should be current, topical, informative, interactive, and address multiple stakeholders.  Proposals will also be considered for panel discussions.  Marketing or sales presentations aimed at gaining the audience’s interest in services, capabilities, or products will NOT be approved. 

Presenters will not be reimbursed for travel to and from the Conference, per diem, and hotel. No honorarium is provided for speakers

Conference presentation time slots will be roughly 45 minutes in duration.  The program committee will evaluate all submissions based on quality and relevance and retains the right to refuse any or all submissions.  All submissions are held in confidence prior to presentation in the proceedings. 

Proposals abstracts for presentations or panels must be submitted via the electronic form. Submissions received after the deadline of September 1, 2010 may not be considered without prior approval from the program office. 

Presentations will be given during concurrent sessions under the headings of Policy and Standards, Technology, and Case Studies. Please indicate the preferred track for your presentation in the abstract submittal.  The following is a list of topics of interest as identified by the program committee.
